Hit an Ace with your 2024 US Open Ticket Purchase
With Wimbledon wrapped up, the tennis world is shifting its focus to the next major tournament: the US Open. Fans from all over will travel to Queens starting Aug. 26 to watch the best of the best compete. Will Coco Gauff win back-to-back US Open titles? Can Carlos Alcaraz continue his impressive streak of dominance? Or will an underdog rise to the challenge and take down a super star?
Attendance at last year’s US Open shattered records. It was the first grand slam to bring in over 950,000 attendees, both championships were the highest ever attended championship matches in US Open history, and the highest single-day attendance record was broken. After the 8% increase in ticket sales from 2022 to 2023, we can expect to see another huge crowd gather at The Billie Jean King National Tennis Center this year.
The US Open offers several types of tickets. With so many different stadiums and sessions, it can be confusing to understand the access you have with each ticket. Here is a breakdown of the US Open ticket options:
Grounds Admission
Purchasing a US Open Grounds Admission ticket is a great way to experience the Open on a budget. Available through the Round of 16, this ticket guarantees you grounds access starting at 9:30 a.m. with no limit on how long you can stay. You also have first come first served access to unreserved seats in Louis Armstrong Stadium, Grandstand Stadium, and all other courts except Arthur Ashe.
Grandstand Stadium
A Grandstand Stadium ticket guarantees you a reserved seat in Grandstand Stadium, which is the third largest stadium at the US Open with a capacity of 8,000. In addition to the reserved seat, you will also have first come first served access to unreserved seats at Louis Armstrong Stadium and all other courts except Arthur Ashe. This ticket also allows you onto the grounds starting at 9:30 a.m. with no time limit on your experience. These tickets are available through round three.
Louis Armstrong Stadium
You can catch some great matches at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center’s second largest stadium. With a Louis Armstrong Stadium Day Pass, you have access to the grounds starting at 9:30 a.m. with no time limit. You get a reserved seat in the 14,000-seat stadium for the daytime matches (starting at 11 a.m.) and first come first served access to unreserved seats at the Grandstand Stadium and all other courts excluding Arthur Ashe. A Louis Armstrong Stadium Evening Pass guarantees you a reserved seat at Louis Armstrong Stadium for the evening matches (starting at 7 p.m.) and grounds access beginning at 6 p.m. If you purchase a day and evening pass, you will not be required to exit the grounds between sessions. Day passes to Louis Armstrong Stadium are available through round four and evening passes are available through round three.
Arthur Ashe Stadium
The biggest names in tennis will take the stage at Arthur Ashe Stadium, which seats an impressive 23,700 people. Like Louis Armstrong Stadium, Arthur Ashe has day and evening sessions. The Day Pass provides grounds access at 9:30 a.m. with no time limit and a reserved ticket in Arthur Ashe Stadium for the daytime matches, which begin at noon. You will also have first come first served access to unreserved seats at Louis Armstrong Stadium, Grandstand Stadium, and all other courts. Evening passes provide a reserved seat in Arthur Ashe Stadium for the evening matches (starting at 7 p.m.) and grounds access beginning at 6 p.m. Exiting between sessions is not necessary if you have a day and evening pass. The day passes are available through the finals and the evening passes through the semi-finals.
Now that the ticket options have been broken down, we can dive into more specific recommendations based on the experience you want to have at the US Open:
Best Chance to See the Stars
Unfortunately, there is no perfect way to predict who is going to be playing on which court or at what time of day. There is a pretty good chance you’ll see some of the biggest stars with an Arthur Ashe ticket, especially during the night sessions. However, during the first few rounds, these matches will likely be very one-sided, since the highest seeded players will be playing the lowest seeded players. If you are in the area, you can make sure to see your favorite player by buying tickets after the daily schedules are released. Following the release of the schedule for the next day, which typically happens in the late afternoon, you can head over to Vivid Seats and order tickets for the stadium and session that your favorite players will be on. Another great way to see the stars in action is to attend practice sessions. The practice schedule will be released each week and gives fans a great opportunity to see players who they may not get to see during match play.
Best Bang for Your Buck
Hitting the sweet spot of finding an affordable ticket while still getting to see some great matches can be tricky, but we have some tips. Round 3 (Aug. 30-31) is an ideal opportunity to see some competitive matches at lower prices. With only 32 players remaining in Round 3, you’ll be able to watch big name players before the Labor Day crowd comes in for Round 4. The quarterfinals (Sept. 3-4) are also a great opportunity to see elite talent on the court before prices reach the semi-finals and finals threshold. Last year, fans who attended the quarterfinals got to see players like Carlos Alcaraz, Coco Gauff, Novak Djokovic, Aryna Sabalenka, Daniil Medvedev, and many more of the sport’s best players.
Opportunity to See the Most Matches
If your priority is quantity of matches, a day pass is the way to go. You get access to the grounds starting at 9:30 a.m. and can stay as long as you’d like. With 16 courts and matches starting at 11 a.m., you’ll get to catch several matches, especially in the earlier rounds. Buying an Ashe or Armstrong Stadium ticket will also guarantee that inclement weather does not interfere with your plans. Both stadiums have retractable roofs, so in case of rain, the courts can be covered. Buying a ticket with a reserved seat in Ashe, Armstrong, or Grandstand Stadium also guarantees you a spot to watch matches. If you opt for Grounds Admission, you may end up waiting in long lines and having difficulties finding unreserved seats for matches.
Most Affordable Tickets
While it may seem like the cheapest US Open ticket would be a grounds pass, that isn’t always the case. With an average ticket price of $183, the grounds passes do provide the cheapest option as it gets later into the tournament. However, in the first rounds, there are affordable ticket options at the larger stadiums. The evening passes at Louis Armstrong Stadium provide some of the cheapest access of the entire tournament on Aug. 26 and 28, with tickets averaging $115 and $120, respectively. If your heart is set on being onsite all day, Aug. 27 is your ideal day. Average prices for Ashe and Armstrong day passes are under $200, which is a great deal for a full day of matches, reserved seats in either of the two biggest stadiums, and the best chances to see big name players.
