NBA Salaries and Team Rosters - 2020 and beyond

More so than any other league, the NBA (and specifically, the roster movement of its players) has become a year-long sports story line.

Free agency, superstar players teaming up and the battle to land the league's next major talent in the NBA Draft have all become important stories that fans follow 12 months a year.

A key factor in how championship NBA teams are built is roster construction: how a team distributes its dollars and assembles a set of players with the goal of hoisting the Larry O'Brien Trophy at season's end. But approaches to roster construction differ.

Some teams–like the Washington Wizards–have invested heavily in one or two players (John Wall and Bradley Beal) while teams like the Memphis Grizzlies and Dallas Mavericks have much greater balance to their player salaries.

Additionally, some teams already have future dollars committed, while others will have greater flexibility. In the 2022-23 season, Beal and Wall will earn more than $80 Million from the Wizards, whereas the New York Knicks have just one player (R.J. Barrett) under contract for just under $11 Million.

As we've seen with the likes of LeBron James and Zion Williamson, transcendent talents can create a surge in demand for tickets and give NBA fan bases a player to rally around.

In this interactive chart below, Vivid Seats allows fans to explore how their favorite NBA team’s roster and salaries stack up to those of other teams:
