Where Is Broadway?
The Broadway Theater District is located in Midtown Manhattan in New York City. It is generally bordered by 6th Avenue on the east, 40th Street on the south, 8th Avenue on the west, and 54th Street on the north. Most Broadway theaters in New York are located within these four streets, with the exceptions of the Vivian Beaumont Theatre and the Al Hirschfeld Theatre.
What Is the Difference Between Broadway and Off-Broadway?
The main difference between Broadway and Off-Broadway theaters is the size of the venue. As a rule, Broadway theaters have 500 or more seats, while Off-Broadway theaters hold between 100 and 499 seats.
Several Off-Broadway theaters are located within the Broadway Theater District, but since they have fewer than 500 seats, they are not considered to be Broadway venues.
How Many Broadway Theaters Are There?
There are currently 40 active Broadway theaters. See the full list below.
What to Wear to a Broadway Show
Broadway dress codes have gotten much more casual over the last couple of decades. Generally speaking, there’s no hard dress code enforced at any Broadway theaters. Some people choose to dress up, but others come in jeans. Be aware that Broadway theaters can be chilly, so you might want to bring a sweater or light jacket for the show.
