New York Giants - What to expect in 2007

The 2nd part of the last season was a total failure for the New York Giants team because they only acquired 2 victories in their last eight regular-season games, succeeded by a speedy exit from the playoffs. The injuries of several players were certainly one reason for that, while there are also some other issues which need to be solved for improving the results. The most obvious is restructuring the defense line.

The most sizeable change in the team, which has occurred this year, is the change, connected with the player Big Brandon Jacobs, who will be starting at running back. This year he will take care of the offense line. He is a sure-handed, professional runner capable of becoming a star.

Kevin Gilbride has been promoted from quarterbacks coach to offensive coordinator. He intends to use more power-running attack, which would open things up on the outside for quarterback Eli Manning, who will be making plays downfield.

An important issue to take into account this year is the change of status of Mathias Kiwanuka from defensive end to linebacker. The linebacking group was really weak in 2007, and the Giants will fully rely on Kiwanuka this year. The team also signed Kawika Mitchell (Kansas City), who is to strengthen the line. Mitchell is a talented run defender and a serious player, however, he cannot boast of really big plays with his participation for now.

The two new starters on the outside, one of which has no linebacker experience at the NFL level, it will surely take some time for the group to learn to work together.

The Giants defense line will be slowly improving this year. The team will struggle hard and hopefully do much better in comparison with the last season.
