Yankees hang on to sweep A'sThe New York Yankees got another great pitching performance from their workhorse as they beat the Oakland Athletics 2-1 Sunday to finish their three game sweep. Andy Pettitte went 8 dominant innings allowing just 4 hits and 1 run while striking out 9. New York jumped to a 1-0 lead on an Alex Rodriguez sacrifice fly in the 3rd inning. Oakland fought back in the 6th inning with Ryan Sweeney tying the game at 1 with an RBI single. The Yankees wasted little time regaining the lead as Jason Giambi hit his 20th home run of the season in the bottom half of the 6th inning. Mariano Rivera closed it out for New York as he allowed one hit but survived the inning to pick up his 24th save of the season. The Yankees will welcome the Minnesota Twins for a three game series starting on Monday. |
