Yankees tickets flying off the shelves

The start of the current season was highlighted by Alex Rodriguez, who became the first player in AL history to homer ten times in his team’s first fourteen games. Mike Schmidt tied for another Major League Baseball record of twelve home runs in his first fifteen matches. This actually set the new MLB record for the least number of games (eighteen) to hit thirteen and fourteen home runs. Alex Rodriguez then went on to win the AL Clutch hitter award in May.

However, pitching problems hurt early on, "highlighted" by the team using 5 or more pitchers in ten consecutive matches to end April, the longest such streak in the MLB in the past fifty years.

In early May 2007, New York set another pitching “record” by becoming the first team in Major League Baseball history to use ten different starting pitchers in the first thirty games. The pitching problems of the team led to the signing of Roger Clemens. He agreed to a one-year contract worth $28,000,022, which is about $4.5 million per month between June and September.

Currently, the team is second in the East Division with .500 (31/31) and 16-13 at home and 15-18 on the road.

On June 9, 2007, the team purchased the deal of right-handed pitcher Roger Clemens from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and optioned right-handed pitcher Chris Britton to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The same day, Phil Hughes was transferred from the fifteen-day to the sixty-day disabled list.
