The New York Yankees were able to manage a split with division rival the Boston Red Sox after a 5-4 win Sunday night. The Yankees got a game winning single from rookie Brett Gardner in the bottom of the 10th inning. Robinson Cano had a 2 run triple that tied the game at 4 in the bottom of the 7th inning, and after both teams went scoreless for the next 2 1/2 innings, the Yankees finally pulled out the victory. Alex Rodriguez hit is 18th home run of the year, which gave him a career total of 536, tying him 13th on the home run list. Mariano Rivera picked up the win as he pitching 2 innings of scoreless relief allowing only 1 hit.
