The New York Yankees avoided a sweep Sunday, as they beat the Cincinnati reds 4-1. Andy Pettitte pitched six scoreless innings, extending his shutout streak to 19 innings. He allowed only 4 hits, 2 walks and struck out 4. Jason Giambi had a perfect day at the plate, going 3 for 3 and drove in 2 runs. Jorge Posada and Robinson Cano had the other RBI’s for New York. Cincinnati never really threatened as they scored their only run in the 8th inning. Mariano Rivera pitched 1 1/3 inning to pick up his 21st save of the season. Both teams are off Monday.
