The Yankees have still to get a sweep-up this season. As per Joe Girardi, Phil Hughes has a fracture in his 9th rib and will be off for about 4 full weeks before he can begin to throw again. That is assumed if he will heal till then. Phil is as well visiting an eye specialist. A very bad news for Phil is that he is only 21 years old and is unable to be healthy during his professional career. In 2004, Hughes made only 3 starts for the GCL Yankees cause of a broken toe on his left foot. In 2005, he had 2 stints on the DL with shoulder swelling. In 2007, on 1 May, he tore left hamstring and did not came back till 4 August. In 2008 he had fracture in rib cage. The main thing is that Phil worked real harder to get in shape; hopefully he will get a good career.
The latest updates of the team are that the Tigers have eleven hits, out of which 8 are for extra bases. Another ineffective game for the Yankees, the Tigers is a good team but the Yankees should not be that bad as a team. The next couple of weeks will be a test of the team’s capability to be together in the face of difficulty.
